Wherever possible, carers will encourage and support you to take your own medication, giving prompts as required. Only carers who have undertaken basic training in the administration of medicine will assist you to take medication and only that which has been prescribed by your doctor. If you lack capacity, medication will only be given following a full assessment – made by your social worker, that it is in your best interests and that this is recorded. Within your person centred care plan there will be a record that is completed after each medication has been taken or administered. Personal protective equipment will be used when necessary.
